WE GOT THE WIN BABY!! Portage Lakes Recap

Portage Lakes Win.jpg

You ever just know when something is going to go your way? That’s how my two tournament wins this season have gone. Two things I noticed that were similar between both besides being two totally different fisheries - 1. I had a gameplan. 2. I was overly prepared. What I mean by this is usually I’m the guy who the night before an event is still rigging rods, playing around with tackle, and has a million thoughts going through their head. In both tournaments, my boat was packed, everything was rigged and prepared two days before the event. I was so prepared, I constantly kept thinking I was forgetting something haha. Let’s first go back in time to my first ever outing on Portage Lakes two Saturdays ago:

We're Back!!

Don't call it a comeback 2.jpg

I guess you could say I’ve been back for a little while now but technically 2020 is my first full year back. Have I still been fishing? Absolutely. Did I need to take some time off since my last blog post in 2017? Yes. So many things to share here, so much is going on in the world, where does one actually begin a “comeback” blog in today’s times?!

To say this year has been a success is an understatement. This was the first year I was back legitimately tournament fishing in almost 2 years. I have already explained that story countless times so I won’t go into it again. I came into my first event of the year just hoping to catch some fish and see what happens. I ended up placing 2nd and that momentum kept rolling all the way through until now. I still have a couple more events to go so I still need to hold my breath for a little while longer but the ABA season is a wrap after this past weekend and boy was it a good one. I think one word to describe this weekend would be: Blessed.

A lot of things have been happening for me lately and life has become extremely busy. But sometimes, it’s better to be busy then not at all. The tournament season is winding down and regional/national season is just around the corner. This past weekend, I fished the last regular season event at the CT River for the ABA which was my third weekend in a row fishing the river; starting all the way up north in the Hartford area, to all the way south out of Haddam.

This past weekend was definitely one I will not forget. To crazy weather tournament day Saturday at East Twin, to the most challenging day I've had on Candlewood Lake I can remember on Sunday. Below is certainly an interesting story to tell.

Father's Day - Candlewood Lake

Posted by jared on June 19, 2017

10 months ago my father got dizzy, fell, and hit his head while walking in Patchogue village. When brought to the hospital and tested for the reasons behind this fall, a doctor was smart enough to catch some of his levels were off. After various tests, he was diagnosed with colon cancer. Getting the call from my brother telling me this news was the most shocking thing anyone can imagine. Being put into the best hands possible, my fathers cancer was successfully removed but had to undergo chemo as a result. A few weeks ago marked his last cycle of chemo.
