Father's Day - Candlewood Lake
10 months ago my father got dizzy, fell, and hit his head while walking in Patchogue village. When brought to the hospital and tested for the reasons behind this fall, a doctor was smart enough to catch some of his levels were off. After various tests, he was diagnosed with colon cancer. Getting the call from my brother telling me this news was the most shocking thing anyone can imagine. Being put into the best hands possible, my fathers cancer was successfully removed but had to undergo chemo as a result. A few weeks ago marked his last cycle of chemo.
Father's Day yesterday marked the first time in 10 months my father and I were able to get together and what better day to break the streak then to spend the day doing what we both love to do together; fishing. My Dad was the one who got me into fishing and was a leading force in allowing me to pursue my dreams and to never give up, even after my accident.
You will notice towards the end of this video (a little after 6 minutes) my father was up at the front of the boat and didn't know he was being filmed. Although a short clip, catching this moment in time I will always remember. He says that he never thought 10 months ago he would be standing on the front of my boat again fishing. He believes his mom (now past) was the one who made him fall so he would be brought to the hospital so they could find out he had cancer before it was too late since he's extremely stubborn.
This will be a day I will always remember. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of footage of him actually catching his fish, but have some pictures to show for it. Dad - Despite our ups and downs, you mean more to me then you will ever know and it meant the world for me to be able to take you fishing again. Love you buddy and happy Father's Day again.
P.S. - Sorry for some foul language. Not pro enough yet with the editing software to bleep it out. I mean what do you expect from two Italians in a boat all day anyway
